Morning Walk

Alfie, like most dogs, loves to go for long walks.  We often walk along the little river that runs through our town.  The river is little more than a trickle during hot, dry summers, but right now, it doesn't look too bad.  Occasionally, we see a heron wading along looking for breakfast, but this morning, there wasn't even a duck in the river.  (I think the word got out I was bringing my camera.)

Our river is actually only a branch of what becomes a larger river, so it's not very big.  This section, where we first cross the river to join the bike path, is essentially a canal.  I have heard that the river was moved slightly at some point in the town's history, and this area certainly looks like it's true.  The bike path leads to the university, so this route can be pretty busy at times.  When we walked this morning around 6:00 a.m., however, we only met one jogger and one other walker, so it was quite peaceful.

  1. I love these photos-they remind me of home. We didn't have a little river, but it's out in the country and away from the city. Now I live in Fort Worth and we have the Trinity River. There are miles of trails along side it so that's what we're doing today-going for a nice long walk :)

  6. I love walking in our forest, along the beach and I particularly enjoy t when there is noone else. It would have been great if I had a dog to walk or if I could take my bunny on a leash but I have to deal with what I have and I walk my camera :)

The river is so beautiful and calm!

  12. Isn't it funny how that happens? Leave the camera behind and you see animals doing cartwheels! Take it with you and you don't see a living thing....Lovely photos of your walk. Very serene.

  13. It always helps when you are out walking/excercising to have pretty surroundings and you do! On my lunch hour a coworker and I power walk around our local nature preserve. I have seen heron, geese and babies, all kinds of birds, snakes and a turtle! The scenery makes the task more bearable especially in the heat! Then I head back to work a sweaty mess do a quick clothing change and finsih out the work day! The break of taking a walk really helps clear your mind and helps you focus! Thanks for sharing your morning walk!

  19. Gorgeous photos!!! It must look even more amazing in real life. Yes, it's similar to pot stickers, we didn't use the right dumplings wrapper so it didn't fry the bottom of the dumplings that much. Thanks for always coming by my blog and leaving comments =)

  21. Hi Just found your blog! I see a resemblance of our canal to your river above. Ours starts up in the hight hills like a small stream, and runs down to Lake Ontario in NY state. Very pretty blog and good pictures.
