My husband returned yesterday from a week-long trip to Florida's east coast. He brought back my favorite taste of Florida, one which was so welcome this morning when we woke up to gray skies and light snow. I'm talking about honeybells. Florida honeybells are only available in January and early February, so he was lucky to find them. Honeybells are a variety of tangelo, a cross of tangerine and grapefruit. They are the juiciest, most luscious citrus in the world. Sunshine on a gloomy February day!

Well, that looks yummy! I have been eating oranges lately, they are everywhere! I'm curious to know how he brought them with him?!!
ReplyDeleteLucky you! I've never heard of them. They sound fabulous!
ReplyDeleteNever had a honeybell but they look yummy! I have been craving citrus lately...I love the high pulp OJ and have been eating clementines like crazy!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of them. Are they sour like grapefruit or sweet? We really like clementines at my house.
ReplyDeleteDelicious juicy citrus and with a lovely name to boot.Honeybells to you too!
ReplyDeleteMy mouth is watering... :) I've never heard of a honeybell, but I bet they are delicious! Glad you got to enjoy. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that most of you haven't heard of honeybells. They are sweet -- not overly sweet, but not at all like a grapefruit. If you can find them next January, you should definitely try them! We usually order them from Hale Groves or Countryside Citrus.
ReplyDeleteYummy, and they might prevent you from getting a bad February cold!

Looks yummy. You can make lots of orange juicy with them. Sorry it took me a while to reply back. Congee is made from boiling rice until it is broken up.
ReplyDeleteI love tangelos and tangerines. Aren't they a vibrant colour. It's so lovely to have fruit like this in winter - it's such a sign of life when everything else is dormant or dying.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I hadn't heard of them either ;) Maggie xx

ReplyDeleteLove citrus so much. Perfect on a gray wintery day!
